NAGR hits Romney in Colorado Springs, Iowa Straw Poll next

Last Wednesday Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney was the speaker at an El Paso County GOP fundraiser in Colorado Springs.

Of course, we couldn't pass this up. So Nation Association for Gun Rights, in conjunction with state gun rights group Rocky Mountain Gun Owners, deployed our Accountability Team to the world famous Broadmoor Hotel.

Armed with the truth, and a firm chin, NAGR and RMGO staff positioned at the banquet hall entrance and handed out literature that challenges Romney's credentials.

As you can see from the flier, there is no shortage of ammo with which to assail Mitt Romney's record.

What might astound people is to see how supposed "gunnies" view criticism of GOP Presidential candidates. When a local “gun rights” leader was handed the Romney flier he looked shell-shocked. Many of the leaders of the institutional gun lobby (and their state and local minions) are more interested in attending ego-stroking cocktail parties and cozying up to presidential contenders than doing the hard work of holding these politicians accountable for their anti-gun records.

If you ever attend one of these events, just ask them why they aren’t concerned about the bad voting records of these politicians — they’ll have a million excuses, none of which advance our cause and all of which prop up mediocre politicians. For these members of the institutional gun lobby, protecting their place on the rub chicken circuit is the more important than anything else.

Wednesday’s operation, though, was a total surprise to everyone. And it showed: despite repeated attempts to silence the purely political free speech of gun rights activists, we still got the message across: Romney is anti-gun.

As you can imagine, many party faithful aren't fond of looking at candidates with a critical eye. Many will whine about special interest groups (since when is the Constitutional Right of all Americans a "special interest"?), or even claim the facts on the flier are made up. We even had one woman, who said Romney would never support Massachusetts’s tough gun laws, claim that our video evidence of Romney's gun control views was doctored. View the video (where Romney says he won't chip away at gun control laws) yourself by clicking here.

Examine the evidence yourself on all of the candidates. You'll find many -- certainly all of the existing frontrunners -- to have extremely anti-gun records in their past. Of course, now that they're trying to woo GOP faithful, they'll sound like they just stepped off the firing line and are ready to let Americans purchase machineguns unhindered. But if you buy that line, we have some swampland in Florida to sell you.

Iowa Straw Poll next deployment

Our goal: let Iowans know about the anti-gun records of many of the GOP Presidential candidates.

We'll be sending you updates from the frontlines, as our team aggressively exposes gun-grabbing politicians and reports back on the reaction. Expect pictures, maybe some video, and certainly some humor.
