Reid and Obama issue new threat

Dear Fellow Patriot,

“We are not giving up, and this is not over. I will do everything I can to continue our efforts to pass stronger background checks.”

-- Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid

“I see this as just round one.”

-- President Barack Obama

Go ahead and pat yourself on the back. But don’t uncork the champagne.

Instead, take a second to let Senator Reid's and President Obama's quotes sink in.

The good news is, just minutes ago, the Senate finished voting on amendments to S.649

Thanks to your help, one of the worst -- the Toomey-Manchin “Background Check” (NATIONAL GUN REGISTRATION) Amendment -- was defeated.

60 votes were required for passage. But thanks to your hard work and consistent action, the gun-grabbers managed only 54

But anyone watching the roll-call vote go down saw something strange.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid -- after spending more than a week twisting arms to ram the bill down the American people’s throats -- voted against the bill.

Now, he can bring the Toomey-Manchin Amendment back up at virtually any time -- which will be as soon as he thinks he has the votes

So don’t think for a second we’ve won the war. We haven’t

Harry Reid wasn’t joking when he said the fight is “not over.”

That’s the bad news.

In fact, tomorrow, the United States Senate will vote on two more amendments to S.649.

Tomorrow morning, I’m going to ask all NAGR members to call their U.S. Senators once again

And Harry Reid’s mission remains simple . . .

Pass a gun bill -- ANY gun bill -- through the U.S. Senate.

Gun-grabbers believe any gun bill that makes it through the Senate will almost assuredly pass the House -- albeit with a couple amendments.

Then, they can get to an Obama-controlled Conference Committee where any number of anti-gun goodies will be added

Then all bets are off.

As I’ve told you before, once the snowball gets rolling, gun-grabbers believe it will turn into an avalanche.

So even if they have to add a “sweetener” or two, gun-grabbers will do anything to pass a bill through the Senate.

Sadly, that’s what some of the votes outside of the Toomey-Manchin National Gun Registration “compromise” that occurred today were all about.

Fortunately -- thanks to NAGR members’ “No Gun Deals” petitions, faxes, and phone calls -- every amendment voted on today failed, including:

*** National Concealed-Carry “Reciprocity,” allowing the federal government to set a “federal standard” and handing President Obama and Eric Holder names of state concealed carry permit holders;

*** “Veterans Protection,” along with the reintroduction of “Project Gestapo,” which treats gun crime as different than other types of crime, allowing prosecutors to nail gun owners to the wall with major prison terms for the most minor violations;

*** The Feinstein Gun Ban and the Senator Leahy’s ATF Witch Hunt Amendment, and the Blumenthal Magazine Ban -- three major items at the top of the gun-grabbers agenda.

So what next?

Well, as I mentioned, two more votes will occur tomorrow.

So you and I can’t afford to let up the pressure for a second.

The good news is, NAGR members have proven to be a massive force to be reckoned with in Washington, D.C.

But President Obama isn’t going to just “give up.”

He’s going to throw the full weight of his presidency behind gun control.

Billionaire New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s group Mayors Against Guns will spend millions on TV ads meant to browbeat weak-kneed U.S. Senators into voting to strip us of our Second Amendment rights.

And the worst of it is, all the wheeling and dealing will take place behind closed doors in Washington, D.C.

Just like the draconian Toomey-Manchin “compromise,” the gun-grabbers will wait until the last minute to spring it on you and me

The ball is in Senator Reid’s court now.

After the Senate voted to defeat Senator Rand Paul’s filibuster last week, he’s held all the procedural cards

Our job is to remain vigilant and ready for action.

I’ll continue to keep you updated on any future developments.

But in the meantime, thank you so much for your action and your financial support.

For Freedom,

Dudley Brown
Executive Vice President

P.S. Today was a big win, but Harry Reid wasn’t joking when he said the fight is “not over.”

So don’t think for a second we’ve won the war. We haven’t

In fact, tomorrow, the United States Senate will vote on two more amendments to S.649.

You and I must remain more vigilant than ever.
