Florida Gun Rights endorses efforts to eliminate gun control

Tallahassee, FL – Today State Rep Anthony Sabatini has filed a bill to repeal the disastrous “Red Flag” Gun Confiscation law passed in 2018. HB 6013 was filed earlier this morning.

This law needs to be repealed immediately” says Matt Collins, Director of Legislation for Florida Gun Rights. “Florida’s Red Flag Gun Confiscation law in 2018 was the largest gun control expansion in Florida history allowing the government to infringe on the rights of citizens without due process.”

SB 7026, rammed through the legislature by then-Governor Rick Scott, allows legally owned firearms to be forcibly confiscated from law-abiding Americans without due process, based on unsubstantiated accusations from disgruntled family members, neighbors, co-workers, and/or current or ex-romantic partners, or roommates.

Sometimes branded as “Extreme Risk Protection Orders” (ERPOs) or “Gun Violence Restraining Orders,” (GVRO’s) this law relies on the issuing of ex-parte (one-sided) orders authorizing law enforcement, including SWAT teams, to immediately seize firearms from the subject of the order without notification or right to an attorney.

The law on the books is arbitrary gun confiscation without due process” continued Collins.

Florida Gun Rights considers this bill a legislative priority, will be tracking this bill during the 2022 legislative session, and expects all pro-gun members of the state legislature to co-sponsor and support HB 6013.

Florida Gun Rights is the Florida affiliate of the National Association for Gun Rights, and is a non-partisan grassroots citizen organization made up of gun owners and lovers of liberty. FLGR is known as Florida’s No-Compromise Gun Rights Organization
